Block the Date! Join us for the Launch of Our Report on Asset Transmission

Dear Moneylifers,

Greetings! I am delighted to invite you to the launch and discussion programme of our report on 'Challenges in Transmission of Assets'. At some point in our lives, we may need to claim assets as a nominee or a legal heir of our deceased loved ones, and anyone who has dealt with the process will agree that it is mired in confusion and contradictions which leads to long delays and cost, at a time when people are also coping with grief. We have explored all aspects of the transmission process, recent regulatory changes and proposed solutions in a simple manner that everybody can understand.

A part of this report also covers the vexed issue of unclaimed deposits across regulator as well as new age worries such as adult guardianship and the need for a living will.

We are honoured and privileged to have Mr K V Kamath, former chairman of ICICI Bank and now Chairman of Jio Financial Services. At his suggestion, the launch of the report at his hands will be followed by a discussion with eminent experts, which will announce shortly. The launch is at 5.30 pm on August 28th, at the Indian Merchant's Chamber building in Mumbai. You can register and save yourself a spot with this link and also share it with your networks: https://www.moneylife.in/events/reportlaunch_28aug24/index.html

New Development in Counselling

We are happy to announce that Advocate Avinash Phatak, retired Deputy Legal Advisor to Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), has graciously agreed to offer counseling and guidance on matters of MHADA, Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) and cess buildings once every fortnight.

Advocate Phatak also has experience and expertise on matters concerning SMEs, criminal and consumer litigation and can be consulted on these too at the fortnightly sessions. These are only by prior appointment.

Advocate Phatak's first session was a big hit and we realise that many people need help on these issues. Here is something that you need to share with people who are close to you or work for you, so that they can get the advantage of free, top-level guidance by calling in advance and booking an appointment. As you know, we also offer access through Zoom calls in the specific window of time when the free counselling is available.

Mr Shirish Shanbhag will continue to provide guidance on co-operative housing society related matters every Wednesday as always.

Mr Abhay Datar our counselor for matters pertaining to banking, insurance, mediclaim and consumer matters is also available for guidance via video conferencing on Tuesdays.

If you would like to seek advice from our counselors, please call our office (022) 35131664 or 35036925 for an appointment. In case you are unable to meet our counselors in-person, you can still seek guidance from our legal helpline. Please also make an effort to visit and share the links to our website, where you can read more about cases of mis-selling, fraud alerts, consumer cases and also solutions to housing society problems.

Past Programmes

We were fortunate to have Adv Sanjoy Ghose , a veteran of the Delhi High Court, dissect the three newly implemented criminal laws – the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). The webinar was organised with an aim to demystify these new laws for the public, highlighting both their intentions and potential challenges. Those of you who could not attend the live session, can still watch a video recording of the session on our YouTube Channel here: https://www.mlfoundation.in/event_registration/decoding-indias-new-criminal-laws/373.html and can also read more about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di7vQGkVjXE
