Join Our Webinar: Understand How New Criminal Laws Affect You! |
Dear Moneylifers, |
Greetings! There has been plenty written on the three new criminal laws that came into effect on 1st July. But have you really paid attention? Do you know how they could impact you? Most of us tend to ignore legal matters since legalese is hard to understand. That is exactly why, we are so pleased to have senior advocate Sanjoy Ghose agree to decode them for us! If you want to grasp what is crucial in a quick two hours, then register for this session on July 11th and make full use of the fact that Adv Ghose has agreed to do this for us. |
As responsible citizens, it's crucial to understand these changes and their impact on our lives. The new laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), aim to prioritise prompt justice, unlike the British-era colonial laws which emphasised penal action. The government insists that these laws empower Indian citizens by creating a more accessible, supportive and efficient justice system. However, while the reforms aim to modernise the legal system, some have criticised the sudden change and have raised concerns. |
Critics argue that the new laws are complex and may take time to understand fully. Implementation challenges could arise due to the transition from old to new laws, affecting law enforcement, lawyers and judges. Some have viewed the emphasis on speedy justice as potentially compromising individual rights. Swift trials should not deter the need for ensuring a fair trial. Moreover, many believe that colonial-era laws were deeply entrenched and have evolved over time. The sudden shift to new laws may disrupt established legal practices and affect citizens who lack complete awareness about the changes. |
Understanding these changes is crucial because the laws directly impact your rights, responsibilities and access to justice. Join us on Thursday, 11 July at 6:00pm, for an enlightening session with senior advocate Sanjoy Ghose, where we will delve into the significant changes brought by India's new criminal laws. |
Advocate Ghose is a highly respected legal expert with extensive experience in litigation, arbitration and law reform. We are excited to hear his insights on the new criminal laws and the practical implications that they have for citizens as well as legal professionals. |

Study on Bank Charges |

Our deputy editor, Yogesh Sapkale, had the opportunity to share the findings of our recent report on service charges levied by banks on the TV show Jago Grahak Jago, which is telecast weekly on the channel DD Sahyadri. Apart from a discussion on the study itself, this recent episode of the consumer awareness show was focused on banking, consumer complaints and banking frauds. If you're a native Marathi speaker or understand the language, you will find the discussion enlightening and useful, as many topics are covered, from common frauds to grievance redress, in the simplest layman terms. |
